I am an individual who operates a pet related website. I want to post adoptable pets. The plugin isn't working. I don't have a Shelter ID. I used my Username instead. Is that the problem? If so, what can I put in the Shelter ID field so it will work?

Hi Eve,
Sorry, I didn't receive notification of this post for some reason. You do need a shelter ID to list pets through this plugin. It's more for specific shelters/rescues than browsing multiple shelters in an area. If you'd like to list pets from specific shelters, you can get the shelter's ID from the URL of the page listing all their pets. It would look something like this: http://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?animal_type=Dog&status=A&shelter_id=NE44
Shelter ID in this case is NE44.

That's cool Eve! Thank you for bringing awareness to the plugin to help shelters list their pets on their WordPress websites.

I also have a pet related site and would like to display available pets by location. Is there a list of shelter ID's available so I could create individual pages for specific shelters or metro areas?

You can get the shelter id in the url when viewing a shelter in petfinder. For example, our shelter page at petfinder is http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/WI185.html and our shelter id is WI185. You can view the shelter's page by clicking on the Organization listed with the pet. The shelter ID is always the state abbreviation and a number.
