I’m using PSC version 1.5.5 and WordPress 3.3.1 with the Roots theme. When I restrict access to a page, it correctly redirects to the access denied page when a user is logged in but does not have access. However, the restricted page is accessible to anyone when logged out. I’ve tested this with multiple pages and posts, and in all cases the restricted pages are accessible when not logged in. Is this a bug, any idea what’s happening?

  • Did you check “Force Login” in options menu?

I am unable to duplicate this with a fresh install of WordPress, PSC, and Roots.

I suspect that there may be another plugin that circumventing or interrupting PSC’s permission check (this should be fairly rare as PSC’s critical hooks demand top precedence).

The first thing I would try is disabling ALL of your plugins (including PSC), then re-enable ONLY PSC. Then, check if the problem still exists with only PSC enabled. Next…

IF PROBLEM IS GONE: If everything is working at that point, re-enable only one plugin at a time, checking each time for the problem. This way, you will catch the offending plugin as soon as you enable it.

IF PROBLEM PERSISTS: If you still have problems after trying this, disable PSC, change your theme, and then re-enable PSC with a different theme (this will help you rule out whether something in the theme is conflicting). Failing that, you may need to reinstall WordPress as there’s probably something more serious wrong.
