[Plugin: OpenID] just gives bad username error

Since updating to WP 3.3.2 and OpenID 3.3.3 the openID mechanism seems to have become unstable. If I clear all cache and cookies it will prompt me to log in to verisignlabs, but after I log in to verisignlabs and then try to use my openID to log in to WP, I get a bad username or password error from WP. Have no idea what is going on. I have disabled and re-enabled plugin and fiddled this and that without suceess. Help as far as troub leshoting and solution would be appreciated.
