Online Backup for WordPress
[resolved] Insufficient permissions to access page (6 posts)

Hello! I have just downloaded this plugin, and it seems to upload to my Plugins folder fine. I receive an error at the top of my dashboard plug-in screen that says "The plugin generated 4100 characters of unexpected output during activation. If you notice “headers already sent” messages, problems with syndication feeds or other issues, try deactivating or removing this plugin."

I went ahead and tried to run the backup through Tools/Online Backup, and got the following error: "You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page."

If I try to run the backup through Plugins/Online Backup for WordPress/View Status, it initiates but does not move past 1%.

    Can you help? Thank you!

    Hi bheyde,

The message during activation is normal if you have WP_DEBUG turned on or PHP error reporting (both should be OFF for a production server though.) You can just ignore it.

The unexpected output is generated by WordPress itself - the bugs will be getting fixed in some future WordPress version, but since the messages don't appear on most production servers, and because they don't actually break anything and can be ignored, they aren't high priority issues for them.

Which version of WordPress are you using? Is it a shared WordPress like at WordPress.com or installed yourself on your own web space? Are you using WordPress MU or Multi-Site? We've not seen that error happen before.

    Regards,

    Jason

    Hi Jason,
I am using the newest WordPress version, 3.4.2, and my site is running on Bluehost (it was running on my local server prior to that). I'm not using multi-site, but I do have 3 different WordPress sites running on that same Bluehost account. However, they each have their own database, domain, WP installation, etc.

I went ahead and turned the Debug function off, so as you mentioned, the error no longer shows up. The plugin activates fine; however, I still receive the "You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page." error when I go to Tools/Online Backup, and the same result (not past 1%) when I try to run it through "View Status".

I am trying to think of other useful information that I can provide. The insufficient permissions error makes me think that maybe it has something to do with username/password? But that stuff seems pretty straightforward...

    Thanks for your help!

Are you moved to a 403 page, or do you get the error from wordpress when you get the Permissions Error? Have you checked the permission levels of your files and folders to make sure they are correct? And finally is your database user setup to have full privileges with the database?

    Hi Jason,
I have great news - I got it working. I checked all of these things you mentioned in your note to me, and everything seemed okay. I was not being moved to a 403 page, just a wordpress message. I went ahead and deleted the plug-in again, and reinstalled it, and now it works. I'm not sure if you did anything on your end because that did not work for me before, but the great news is that it worked now!

Thanks for being responsive in helping me out,
    Brandy

    Hi bheyde,

That is good news! I couldn't replicate it here at all. Maybe the plugin install hadn't worked correctly for some reason.
