    Hi GR8FL,

This may be fixed in our new version.

We've just finished some initial testing of our new version, 2.1.0. We've not released it yet (it is still going through some more thorough testing) but we consider it to be stable.

You can download it here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wponlinebackup/download/
It is listed under Other Versions as "Development Version"
Just uninstall the plugin from your blog, then click Add New on Plugins page and then click Upload. You can then upload the Development Version you've downloaded.

Let us know if this helps.

    Regards,

    Jason

Do you want me to delete Version 2.0.2 completely and then try the new one?

Yes you will have to uninstall the existing version and delete it before you can add the new one.

So the downside is you will need to do the settings again, but that doesn't normally take long. Be sure you know your encryption key too before you uninstall the existing one.

    I am ready to scream...

deleted plugin. tried to install new one. Received: Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error. Tried this twice and each time I deleted plugin, made sure to clear cache.

    Hi GR8FL,

Did it give an error message when it said that?
Normally WordPress shows the error underneath if it can see it.

    Are you running PHP 4?

    Jason.

And when I tried to re-install 2.0.2 it doesn't recognize my password. This is really maddening.

    UPDATE: Found password.

I don't even know what PHP 4 is. I am running WordPress 3.3.

I was running this plugin for over a year just fine.

Have no idea why it keeps failing now.

I have just about thrown out every plugin that may conflict with it.

    Hi GR8FL,

No problem. WordPress 3.3 doesn't work with PHP 4 so that answers that.
Not quite sure what is occurring. Would you be willing to provide admin panel access?
You can create a temporary user account for us and email the details to support "at" backup-technology.co.uk.
We can login and check the error if we can.

None of the testing of 2.1.0 has brought up this fatal error which is very strange.

    Jason.

    Hi GR8FL,
I've just found a possible cause for this and investigating it.
    Will let you know shortly.

    Hi GR8FL,

Please delete the version you have at the moment and download the Development version again from here:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wponlinebackup/download/
Then you can install it again.

    We fixed a fatal error.

    Jason.

I opted to just save the basics. No plugins, themes or uploads this time.

    Result:

Do you know if you have any disk space quota with your host?
And how much you are currently using?

seems my successive backup attempts have created files that should have been backed up to your server...

    /public_html/wp-content/wponlinebackup/tmp = 3GB

Other backups also are stored on my host account, totaling 12GB.

Going to offload this and see what happens next.

This is really a huge pain and not so sure why.

deleted all temporary backup data and again - no uploads, plugins, themes selected.

I have had no problems with this until 3 weeks ago.

    My host allots 20GB.
    ------------------------------
It would be really helpful, btw, to include an cancel option if one wants to do such while backup is running.

    Hi,

We've just stumbled on this in the lab after a hunch from a colleague...
Do you have any files larger than 1 gigabyte?

The way we compress imposes a 2GB limit on file size and can trigger this exact error.

We're looking at imposing a file size check for this to skip large files and prevent this. But in the meantime if you don't need those files where they are you could move them outside of WordPress.

Have you enabled the "Backup the WordPress parent folder?" option in General Settings?
Can you try with it unticked?

There must be a very big file over 1 GB somewhere and if you say this has only started happening it could be some form of log file that has been growing. But from what we're seeing we can only get this error from gzwrite if we try to give it more than 2GB of data and that can only happen with a file approaching that size.
