    Hello,
what is the exact shortcode you used in the page?
If you add contesthopper as a widget (not with a shortcode), does it work?

The shortcode I’m using is the one suggested in the “Publish” tab, [contesthopper contest=”224″]

I haven’t tried to use it as a widget because I’d like to make some tests (the page I’m inserting the short code into is published as Private) before making it public, and I’m going to translate it to Spanish and Italian with the Polylang plugin before really using it.

Ok I’ve just tried with the widget and I get the same “invalid contest” message.

    Thank you for additional information.
I have looked into it, but I am still not able to reproduce the issue.

“Invalid contest” message happens when database query does not find the contest by ID (224 in your case).

Do you have contest with ID 224 listed in “All contests” page?
Do you have any plugins/filters that might alter the behavior of WP_Query class?

    (@aleph72)

Yes I have the contest with ID 224 and I don’t know if the plugins I’m using are doing something strange with the WP_Query class.

These are the plugins I’m currently using, maybe you know if someone could be the culprit:

    Askimet
    Codestyling Localization
    Contesthopper for WordPress
    Delightful Downloads
    Easy Video Widget Box
    Flat Alert Bar
    Jetpack by WordPress.com
    Polylang
    The Events Calendar
    Ultimate Coming Soon Page
    Visitor Map and Who’s online
    WP-SmartAppBanner
    WPTouch
    Yop Poll

I’ve also tried to uninstall and reinstall the plugin, but it’s still not working.

Wait a second… I’ve made another try and now it’s working!

I didn’t change anything, I think I’ve just deactivated and then reactivated the plugin.

That is ..interesting, the reactivation shouldn’t do anything that could fix this. I also don’t see a plugin that might do something to wp_query in your list.

In any case I am glad that it worked itself out, but I will keep an eye on this issue. If it reappears please post here again and we will dig deeper.

    Thank you.

Well, the important is that I can now use this fantastic plugin.
    Thank you for your support.

I think I know what breaks the plugin, the translation with Codestyling plugin.

I’ve tried to translate it to Spanish again, generated the .mo and .po files and then in the contest page I get again the “invalid contest” message.

I’ll have to use it in English for now but, please, make it ready for translations when you can.

    Thanks.

I have tried your combination of Codestyling Localization and Polylang.

I have managed to generate and translate the po/mo file through Codestyling plugin and load/switch it through Polylang without any issue so I am still not sure why you are getting “invalid contest” error message.

Currently, there is no support for multilanguage user-generated texts. More info/similar issue in this topic.

I’ve tried eliminating the translations and redownloading the plugin again.
If the widget is shown in the English page (I’m using Polylang with English, Spanish and Italian languages), no problems at all. The same widget in the Italian and Spanish pages shows the invalid contest message.
I think it works the same way for posts and pages.
