I just uploaded the plugin, Post Attached Image, in zip format using the wordpress plugin uploader. It said it was installed successfully but it does not appear on the activation page.
I then tried to upload the extracted file using filezilla but that didn't work either. I don't know what I am doing wrong.
Please can someone help.

That plugin is not properly structured in the zip file. It has plugin nested in two levels of folders. Hopefully the author will read this thread and fix it!
If you want to use that plugin, download and unzip the file on your local machine, then upload the files, post-attached-image.php, and multifile.js, to the wp-content/plugins/post-attached-image folder, via FTP, to your host.
Note you might want to delete the 'nested folder' on your host if it exists (wp-content/plugins/post-attached-image/post-attached-image)
