I've downloaded and installed the No-Copy plug-in. But it doesn't work, even in the default WordPress theme. I'm using IE 7.
Anybody else having this problem?

@rwc, there is no issue with IE 7.

Posted 3 years ago #I'm on 2.7.1. I make the plugin active and it doesn't change anything -- no errors, yet no disabled copy/right click/etc.

Posted 3 years ago #@rwc, can you give a link to your site? (Please enable no-copy) Alternatively see whether the file wp-content/plugins/no-copy/no-copy.js is loading in your browser (or there in the source of the HTML output).
It would be interesting to find out what's preventing no-copy from working on rwc's site. :D

Posted 3 years ago #I can't show the site for proprietary reasons, but I can tell you that the JS does not appear to be loading at all. It's not in the source of my HTML output. For what it's worth, there are Google ads on the page that have JS ... could that be causing problems?
Does WP even allow Javascript by default?

Although in my testing, when I switched to the default theme, it didn't work either. Not sure if default theme calls wp_footer or not.

That script is pretty useless considering CTRL + C and CTRL + V still work...
Every time a person visits the page, the content is downloaded anyway, so why try to prevent them copying it?... they've already been given a copy when they viewed the page.
Of course they can also disable JS....
The only people you're gonna catch out with that script are in-experienced users.
It's like giving a homeless guy food, then attempting to stop him eating it by placing a blindfold over his eyes... lol...

I always laugh when people reply to plugins like this scoffing at their ineffectiveness. Everybody knows the limitations of them, but if someone wants to eliminate 40 per cent of plagiarism, let him --- and if you think that's stupid, don't download it.
Some sites charge for content, and if that content gets copied and pasted on blogs and message boards all over the Internet, it undermines what those sites are trying to accomplish. Again, cutting out 40 per cent, or 20 per cent, or whatever per cent, is better than nothing for the people in these situations.
I also think it's humorous for people to assume that the general user actually knows how to work around this. The general Internet user actually doesn't know what the heck "view source" means --- and if they got that far, they wouldn't know what to do with it.
Just because you know how to install WordPress and know how to circumvent a plugin like this doesn't mean everybody does. It is what it is, and it's useful for some people. That's why it's a great plugin. People who want it, get it. People who don't, don't. And some, like you, take the time to mock it publicly.

First time i came across a site with a script like that in place i went and searched how to circumvent it, and this back when i didn't even know the concept of HTML...
You're assuming any user visiting the page will just go "hey no right-click, fair enough" and go about doing what they want as usual...
If anyone else thinks like me at all, the first thing they'll do is go look up how to bypass it.
Right-click works on most websites, when you take away functionality that is normally there you stand to frustrate the user (granted perhaps not everyone)....
So although i agree there can be valid reasons, i think you're missing the point that it could also having a negative impact on your visitors....

Posted 3 years ago #I agree. If people want your content, they're going to get it. If somebody has made the decision to steal your content, they're probably not going to decide not to just because right clicking didnt work.

I think you can agree it cuts out a percentage of plagiarism.
My point is, calling the plugin essentially useless is an insult to the creator, when, in fact, it is useless FOR YOU, but is in fact quite useful for many people seeking this functionality.
If you take it for what it is, and if you're seeking what the plugin has to offer, it's actually a great addition.

Yes i agree perhaps i was a little drastic with my first response.
One point still stands though, in that i don't believe it will stop many people stealing content... if any..
Unless someone comes forward and admits to stealing content there's no way to be sure...
Copy and paste aren't the only options in the right-click menu, one example would be print, another firefox plugin functions...
We could agree it cuts out plagiarism, but i won't (sorry) because in reality it's impossible to know the numbers.. You may stop 100 or 1000, then again you may stop 0, you won't ever know...
So you may reduce user experience for a minimal return, not necessarily, but possibly...
I see it like this... Users stopped from stealing VS users annoyed by no right-click.
I could be wrong, but i'd wager there being a higer probability of frustrating visitors over stopping content thieves.
For every 1 thief stopped you might turn away 10 visitors...
Of course i can only make a best guess with my numbers to, but i'd opt for the safer option of keeping visitors happy and employing a better method to stop content thieves..I know what you're saying though.. I'm just an awkward bugger... lol..

To disible for specific group, i mean this way even admin cant copy stuff. LOL
