[resolved] Plugin: No category Parents - doesn't work with WP 3.2? (14 posts)

Hi, I'm moving an old site into WP 3.2, and I don't want any PARENT page names to appear in the Permalinks.

I've been searching and testing many plugins the past few weeks, and I have found a solution where I have to manually remove the parts of the permalink, which is very slow.

This plugin SOUNDS like it'll do what I want automatically - yay! I've just installed Ver 1.0, can't find any settings to fool with, so am guessing it works straight out of the box ...

But nothing's happened so far. So I checked the Details and found this:

"Warning: This plugin has not been tested with your current version of WordPress.

This plugin will completely remove the mandatory 'Category Base' and all the parents from your category permalinks (e.g. /category/parent-category/my-category/ to /my-category/)."

Such a shame, I held such high hopes. Anyone like to recommend any other plugins which they have working?

    Many thanks in advance!

    Dear Webgirlie,
I run the plugin in my blog, with wordpress 3.2.1 and it works perfectly, look: http://www.milardovich.com.ar/ .
However, I received a message from another user who's also having problems, so I will investigate this.
    Regards,
    Sergio.

Hello Webgirlie - we must be running a similar type of website because we keep ending up on the same forums with the same issues. BTW - solved my menu problem but they closed the thread so I couldn't report back. off topic - so moving along to the topic at hand...

I am on 3.2.1 and I just installed the no category parents plugin and it worked fine. Awesome! I have a lot of nested subcategories so my permalinks were getting as long as the Mississippi River - now, after installing the plugin - they are nice and clean - one category instead of 5 in the permalink! I used the redirection plugin with no category parents to redirect the links- don't know if that would change the situation for you. but maybe worth a try?

Hi milardovich - you're a hassle saver. You rock. Just as what I have needed. Yes it really works with WP 3.2.1.

    Thank you so much.

    Doesn't work correctly on 3.3.1

It blocks the mandatory category base, but not the parent categories.

Disappointing because after hours of searching this is the only plugin I've found that claims to remove parent categories from permalinks.

If anyone can recommend another plugin that does this it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. it stopped working for me too after the 3.3.1 upgrade. I was able to locate another similar plugin but I had the same issue. It didn't work. And agree, it is disappointing because this is was the only plugin of its kind. @majato if you located a replacement please post back here and I will d the same.

    Thanks msaizan, will do :o)

there are some that will deal with the category base (for example Yoast's SEO plugin does this) but I've spent the last few evenings trying to find a plugin to drop the parent category but to no avail.

So, it looks like we'll have to put up with it or put in place permanent 301 redirects in to .htaccess.

    Hey guys,
Sorry for the late reply. I'm working on a fix for the new WordPress version. Unfortunately I don't have so much time to develop this kind of things, but I will notify you when I release the new version ;).
    Regards,
    Sergio.

@milardovich...why not make it a paid plugin? I would be more than happy to pay a fair wage for the plugin.

@msaizan, I don't think it would be serious to "privatize" a free and open source plugin, I don't follow that way of thinking. Anyway, if you think I deserve an economically incentive you have always the donate link ;).

BTW, since I released the new version of the plugin today, there shouldn't be any issues now with the new versions of wordpress ;).

Well if you would prefer to keep the plugin free and open source I can certainly understand that. I would be happy to donate. Thanks for updating a great plugin.

Since the 0.2 update this plugin stopped working for me, had to revert to 0.1

With 0.2 the url still looks like this: http://exmaple.com/category/somecategory if I put /%category% in Category Base (WP Permalink Settings) the urls looks like this http://exmaple.com/somecategory/somecategory

    I'm using WP 3.3.2...

Tzeapa: just try to update to 0.2.1. If it still doesn't work go to Options/Permalinks and then delete the text of the "Base Category" field. If it doesn't work either please give me the URL of your website and we will see what we can do ;).
