• Very strange issue here…

I can upload zip files from my pc, however, when I was at my client’s office yesterday, we couldn’t upload from either of their machines. What’s even more odd is we’re all using Firefox, plus we’re using the same Zip program.

    A few more details…

The files we’re uploading aren’t exceeding the upload limit.

A few zip files they couldn’t upload, they then sent to me and I was able to upload them just fine.

I’ll post the error just a soon as they send it over.

I was hoping maybe somebody has already come across this problem and ideally knows a simple solution.

    Thanks.

This is the error they receive while trying to upload a zip file:

Uploaded file was no or a faulty zip file ! The server recognize :
    application/octet-stream

Though .zip files are something of a universal format, there are a few different compression schemes that programs use to make them: Deflate, Deflate64, Store, and BZip2.

Deflate is the absolute most common, but most web servers will support Deflate, Store, and BZip2, while the Deflate64 scheme is commonly not supported.

If your client has Windows XP, the built-in “Send To –> Compressed Folder” uses Deflate and will work nicely.

Mac OS X also has a built in “Create archive of…” feature that utilizes Store and should also work.

Check with your client to ensure they are using a program which creates standard ‘Deflate’ or ‘Store’ .zip files, such as the built-in system utilities above. Otherwise, recommend they use 7-Zip for Windows, or Springy for Mac OS X.

If none of the above works, it is possible the file is being somehow modified before it’s uploaded, perhaps by disk encryption, or even a malicious malware/virus running invisibly on their system.

Reply back and let us know what happens – Best of luck!

Thanks for the very detailed response, much much appreciated.

Yes, this is what they are using, as well as myself. I’m pretty sure it’s not an issue with the zip file as I’m able to take their zip files full of images and subsequently upload ’em no problem on my pc, running XP, too.

If I PM’ed you the login details, would you mind trying to upload a zip file? It’d be interesting to see if it works elsewhere, as opposed to just my machine. If you don’t want to bother, I totally understand.

Thanks again for the thorough help.

Okay, this seems to be an issue with Firefox 3. The upload works fine with Firefox 2 and Internet Explorer 7.

If anybody knows why it doesn’t work with FF3, please let me know.

    Thanks.

it’s also not good with google’s browser. IE8 is fine.
