[resolved] Upgrade - thumbnails not being created (21 posts)

On 3.0.3 I just upgraded, happy to see things I've been wishing for since a long time, but…thumbnails aren't being created, and aren't editable! Have tried emptying cache, deactivating/reactivating, nothing works. Message was pictures uploaded successfully, everything loads except thumbnail and pre-existing are not editable either. Anxious to fix and enjoy the new features!

There seems to be an issue with Flash 10.1 and the flash uploader.

I can upload images, but after thumbnail creation, the uploader hangs.

    Thumbnails can be recreated manually.

Disabling flash uploader results in things working as intended.

    Any error message ?

On my part, no error message, depending on the browser I just get either a broken link, or question mark, or blank box. When I select edit thumbnail, it gives me the edit screen; on the left is the image but I can't select to make a thumbnail, on the right is a question mark where the thumbnail doesn't load.

I had also disabled the flash uploader, but that didn't work either! I tried the recreate thumbnail option and there was no error message but no thumbnail was created.

All the previous galleries show up normally, and the thumbnails are there, but can't be changed either.

    Thanks!

The edit thumbnail issue looks like a javascript conflict, will look into it. Can anybody report the same problem ?

Does the wordpress core flash uploader works for you ?

The core flash uploader works. And there were no problems at all with nextgen until the last update. Thanks for looking into it!

    Hi,
also here. Since yesterday a NextGen user.
Looks pretty sweet. But idd, not thumbnails are created.
Its says 100% thumbs created, then the inner-box disappears, but the white outer-box stays on top. Nothing....
Closing the box manually, back on the main window. Refresh, but no luck.

So, for now, i cant use it yet.
Hope you find an answer for this!

    Cheers!

So, the trouble on my side was with the Constructor theme. The theme has been updated to latest, which solves the conflict, nextgen is now on the latest version, and all is working! Very happy with the changes! Thanks!!

it is working for me again.
Due to another problem with a language plugin i increased the memory_limit in php.ini (now 64mb)
The language plugin works, but also the Gallery plugin.

NOt sure if this is due to the memory increase, but maybe this helps you guys.
    good luck

I have random thumbnail creation issues, by random I mean that my flash uploading works fine and when everything is uploaded I have about 15% of the pics that have no thumbnails. The pics are there and were uploaded but justa red x in gallery. I have twenty ten theme and using mozilla. I have yet to try and reaload the faulty pics, will give that a run. When I create albums, they usually contain about 100 images of large pictures, sont about 8-15 of them fail to create a thumbnail... weird...

I was having thumbnail creation issues as well after upgrading to WP3.0.3. Surfed around for a solution for quite awhile til I stumbled on this post. I use the Constructor theme as well so Petluck's solution worked for me after updating the theme. I hate updating constructor cuz it wipes out my settings and I have to re-do my custom theme, but that's an issue for a different forum ;-)

Thanks Petluck and nextgen still rocks, I'm happy to say!

I'm having problems as well, but mine is with a custom theme.

Everything was working fine, but now it's stopped working. The thumbnails are failing to generate despite it saying "done".

I'm using wordpress 3.0.0 and develop all my sites in wordpress.

Looking forward to a quick update :)

I'm having a similar problem - just installed and uploaded 15 images, only one created a thumbnail and when I try and edit them, it get this error message below.
I'm using the latest version of wordpress with a thesis theme.

the image that created the thumbnail is 1972 x 1100 pixels, the others are larger (some 5000 pixels).

    help?

I've managed to resolve my problems, unfortunately i have had to edit the plugin code though:

    here's how:
    1. Open an FTP connection to your root WordPress directory
    2. Open /wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/lib/gd.thumbnail.inc.php with your favourite text editor (e.g. UltraEdit, etc.)
    3. On line (approx) #168 un-comment (remove the //) from before @ini_set('memory_limit', '128M');
    4. Save and upload changes
    5. Delete image/s that failed to generate a thumbnail and re-upload using NextGEN Gallery’s standard Upload Images feature

    (credit to: http://www.visser.com.au/blog/thumbnail-generation-php-memory-limit-nextgen-gallery/)

This worked for me, but is not an ideal solution.

    Hope it helps.

    Hi Justin,
thanks for the tip - I tried it, but only succeeded with a few images, not them all.
however, I got from this the issue being the size of my images.
I resized all to 1200 pixels and yes!! it worked.
    does for me for now!
