Hi,
I have looked and tried to modify the nggallery.css to get the thumbnails just beneath the big image, but it's some pixels to the right and I don't know how I should modify that. Any tips?

Sorry I can't help with a specific answer, but if you are not already using some sort of CSS inspection tool, you really should. Such as Firebug for Firefox, or what IE provides natively.
Without it, determining which rule in which file is actually controlling a particular element can be almost impossible.
With it, you can temporarily override a rule's value to see what effect it has without actually changing the actual CSS file.
