Thumbnail link to post (5 posts)

    Hi,

I've read a lot of posts on this forum but can't find an adequate solution to this. When javascript effects are set to 'none', how to make the thumbnail images link to posts and not the image file.

It looks like it should be possible under Options > Effects. When effects are set to 'none' - what do I put into the field below (Link Code line :) that will set the link to the assocated post?

I'm using the latest version of wordpress and nextgen gallery so this solution http://wordpress.org/support/topic/nextgen-gallery-edit-link-of-photo-to-specific-post?replies=9 doesn't work because it's a year old and the code on the functions page has changed.

    Any help is appreciated :)

This is a work around, but I've put html links into the descriptions of individual photos. In my case, each just links back to a gallery page, so that if someone finds a photo by way of tag or randomized pic in the sidebar, they can still get to the description in the gallery page about where the photo came from. You can see it at http://californialichens.org/?page_id=273

This seems perhaps beyond the scope of the plugin intention - to provide a simple image management solution - which it does brilliantly.

Currently, there is no way for NGG to 'know' which post an image should correlate to. It would make more sense to me to use the post thumbnail feature of WP for this feature, as these are 'connected' to the post. You can then call the posts, by category, but only display the thumbnails rather than the post or excerpt in a template.

    I did this here:

    http://australianburlesquefest.com/category/the-stars-2011/

This is a category template showing just post thumbnails (and an overlayed title in this instance). When clicked, you get the full post - which seems to be roughly what you are trying to achieve?

You can still manage the images via NGG, and choose which pic from the gallery you want to use as the featured image in each post (in the post edit page itself).

    Hope that helps!
