Is there a way to set up a text link to open a slideshow? I'd like to have a post or a page with textual hyperlinks to nextgen galleries. How to do it?
If this feature is not available, could it be inserted in the new features list (if any)? Thank you!!!

Yes, that would be very cool.
Came here by googling for NextGEN textlink.
Seems that I am not alone in wanting this functionality, found a lot of people requesting the same...

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring as well. I'm googling the same thing with no good results. Have either of you guys found a solution? I am trying to link a meteor slide gallery to open a NexGen image in a lightbox view.

No, not really.
Floatbox does slideshows directly from a textlink nicely.
See the demopage for some examples:

Wouldn't know how to use that with Nextgen galleries though.
Did not try to hard though, so you might see for yourself or ask the Nextgen author for help.

For anyone still searching, I found the solution. Check out this thread.
I also figured out how to link my Meteor-Slides plugin to open a full sized image in a NextGen lightbox. I had to edit the "meteor-slideshow.php" file to have it open a link in a lightbox. My solution was:
<a href="<?php echo get_post_meta( $post->ID, "slide_url_value", $single = true ); ?>" class="shutterset_website-filmstrip-images" title="<?php the_title(); ?>"><?php the_post_thumbnail( 'featured-slide' ); ?></a>
