I'm losing my mind. When you insert a standard WP gallery you have the option to use an attachment.php or image.php file when the thumbnail is clicked. I've spent 3 days trying to figure out how to do this with NextGen Gallery and I'm lost. I'm new to both php and WordPress so if one of you kind folks knows how to do this, please use very basic wording to explain it to me. Thanks a million to anyone who can help! Paul
The answer is : NextGEN doesn't use the attachment.php or image.php files, it's only used by the core gallery

Thank you Alex, is there anything similar that I can use with NextGEN, I really like how easy the plug-in is to use. Thanks, Paul

Thanks Alex, that looks like it might work. Now I'm getting 404 errors on both the forward and back buttons. I'll do some research on that and open a new support topic if I can't figure it out. Great plug-in thanks for all your efforts! Paul
