Protect _backup image files (2 posts)

This is a request to possibly have the _backup files location changed/protected to prevent people from being able to access the files. The thought behind this is that if we use NextGEN to watermark files, the original _backup files do not have the watermarks on them. They are convenient to keep around because we can restore them and re-apply a watermark if we change it, or screw up the location of the watermark when applying, or for whatever other reasons. If someone were to want to snag someone's images without the watermark and knew that NextGEN was being used the about the _backup files, it can easily be done.

What I propose is to possibly create a sub folder under each gallery's folder location that is named a randomly generated 26 (or however many) character string, and link that string to the particular gallery in the database so it knows where to store the files. This would obscure the location enough so that they can not be accessed easily to snag.

If there is a setting that I am missing (besides removing the files, which I like to have to restore from) please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Valt

Interesting thoughts, indeed I never think in this direction. Maybe it's possible with permission settings ( remove gobal read parameter ) as the script should be the owner of the backup image... need testing, if it works it could a simple change
