[resolved] Problem with Dimensions for Tumbnail Creation & Editing (3 posts)

    Hi,

I'm having an issue on a client site with thumbnail generation and editing. I have some images (not all) that simply will not create thumbnails to the dimensions I set in NGG options. In options, I set the thumbnail size to 155 x 225 but the thumbnails are created at 225 x 155 when I use the "Bilk Actions > Create new thumbnails" feature.

Furthermore, when I click on the "Edit thumb" link on a single image, the dialog opens ok and everything in it displays fine but the thumbnail area editing rectangle is again the wrong size/orientation (225 x 155 instead of 155 x 225). On the other 2 images in the gallery it works OK.

I re uploaded the images to make sure after resizing and re saving them locally to make sure there was no file corruption.I get success messages both with the bulk thumb creation and edit thumb window but it doesn't work on those images.

Any idea what may be going on?

    Hi!

After a little more investigating I realized that the edit thumbnail rectangle's size or orientation (portrait/landscape) seems to be tied to the orientation of the original image which doesn't make any sense to me. I thought that the idea of setting a thumbnail size was to be able to apply it to any image or size.

I've been using NextGen for quite a while but I may not have run into this issue before because I often use square thumbs or the images in a specific gallery are all the same orientation (if not size). In this case, the gallery has a mix of portrait and landscape images of different sizes. For landscape images, the edit thumbnail rectangle is 225 x 155 and for portrait images, it changes to 155 x 225. I have the option set to 155 x 225 and, unless I use the bulk actions thumbnails creation feature to override the options thumbnail size, I'd expect the image specific thumbnail editing window to always give me a rectangle of the size AND orientation I set in options regardless of the size or orientation of the original image. But that is not what is going on for me here. Is that by design or is it a bug?

    Thanks

Ignore this... user error... ;) I forgot to tick the "Ignore the aspect ratio" setting.
