• It appears that NGG strips out color profiles when it resizes images. By default does it strip away all metadata? Is there any way to change this? I’d like to be able to use the built in resizing features, but I don’t want to lose all image metadata, especially the color profile.

    Thanks.

  • You can use the backup feature, but a resize didn’t currently save meta data…

Did you find a solution? I have the same problem…

I, too, am seeing the same problem. My original source image is tagged with an ICC profile. When NextGen creates the thumbnail, it removes the ICC profile, leaving the image untagged.

When I click on the thumbnail to bring up the full-sized image (in singlepic mode?) it exhibits an obvious color shift.

This is a rather serious problem for a plugin designed specifically to handle images. Isn’t there some way to tell the thumbnail-generating engine to preserve the tagged color profile?

Without a fix for this issue I’m afraid I’ll have to refrain from using NextGen, which otherwise appears to be a very powerful and useful plugin.

You can try installing ImageMagick. Imagick php module must be installed in the server.

@ueus Thanks for the suggestion. It took a fair amount of work for me to get ImageMagick and WP to play together nicely, but now the thumbnails generated by NGG and IM look the way the ought to. (And the thumbnail is tagged with the same ICC profile as the original.)

Now if I can just get NGG’s flash-based uploader to work I’ll be all set. Grrr…
