• I’d like to make a request for a new feature (or actually a change to an existing one).

I’ve used Gallery2 for several years on my website, but it’s overly complex, and doesn’t integrate well with WordPress.

NextGEN is much better for my needs, but there are a couple of things that Gallery2 does that I’d like to see in NextGen:

    1. Gallery2 can be configured store the original images in a folder outside the normal web structure (i.e. above the /public_html/… level). This makes them more secure – browsers can only access the images via PHP scripts.
    2. Gallery2 does “on-the-fly” watermarking. In other words, the pictures are only watermarked when they are requested by a web browser, and the original images are untouched. This means that if you want to change the watermark, you can, without having to upload the original pictures all over again.

    Regards,

    Neil.

  • Those are biggies for me, too. I would love to be free from Gallery2 but without being able to protect the original photos and without pre-generated watermarking, I just can’t switch.
