Support » Plugins » [Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] How to install smoothbox into nextGen Gallery to fix validation errors

  • Because of validation errors with nextGEN Gallery, which uses thickbox, I’d like to use smoothbox. But there is scant information on how to implement this. Anyone able to help explain the install procedure to do this for WordPress?

I’ve got nextGEN Gallery installed in plugins and it’s working fine, except for the multitude of validation errors. I’ve downloaded smoothbox.css, smoothbox.js and loading.gif

I have no clue where to place these files so that nextGEN can use them instead of Thickbox. I tried just placing them in the nextgen-gallery -> thickbox directory and then seeing if I could select smoothbox in the nextGEN wordpress preferences Gallery -> Effects -> Custom but didn’t have any luck with that. I’m lost, dazed and confused.

  • You must use the same effect code , as for thickbox but rename it to smoothbox : class="smoothbox"

Please tell me what files to use and where they go. This is not clear.

Alex, Smoothbox consists of three files…
    loading.gif
    smoothbox.css
    smoothbox.js

Where are those files supposed to go? In nextgen-gallery -> thickbox directory? If not there do they stay in nextgen-gallery -> smoothbox ?

Then when I go into Gallery -> Options -> Effects what do I do?
Are you saying I should set the Javascript thumbnail Effect to Custom and then change the Link Code Line to…
    class=”smoothbox” rel=”%GALLERY_NAME%”

I tried that and it did not work so obviously I am screwed up and doing something wrong. there are a lot of people who have no idea how to get this to work besides me. I’ll be happy to write up a tutorial once I know how to do it, but apparently you’re the only one who has said this can be done but without providing exactly the steps necessary to do it. Please help.

Can someone please explain how to integrate smoothbox into nextGEN Gallery?

You need to add the script files manually to your theme or added a plugin which do this work, after the script codes are added you can change theeffect code in nextgen gallery…

We are clearly having a communication problem. I am not understaning anything you are saying.

I have tried in the best way I know how to describe what my problem is. I have showed you the files that I have and I am asking where they go. Instead of answering my question, you reply in a way that makes no sense to me. Is it that difficult to answer my questions in the way that I’ve posed them? If this plugin is that difficult to get to working with Smoothbox, then I guess I’ll look for something else to use instead of nextGEN.

He made perfect sense. The script files have to be added to your theme or you have to program a plugin that will do that automatically.

You CANNOT just add the smoothbox files in some folder and have it magically work.

He only made sense if you have an understanding of more complex concepts. Many people don’t have that understanding, me being one of them. In cases like that, more thorough explanations are needed and your explanation was no more helpful than Alex’s.
