[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Adding comment system to individual photos (7 posts)

    Hello everyone,

I am managing a site that uses Nextgen as a personal photography journal/portfolio. I would like to be able to let people comment on each individual photo. Is this possible with Nextgen? If not, is there a plugin that will allow this?

    Thanks for any help!

I think the answer is probably "no".

However, i'm currently working on a plugin to provide a template-able html front end to NextGen gallery (partly because javascript image display is no good for search engine optimization and partly because i want to be able to add things like a "Buy A Print" button). It may be possible to add comments to this.

There could be issues related to attaching comments to individual photos, as comments are normally attached to pages or posts and images are neither, but hopefully i'd be able to find a way round that.

This gallery front end is currently usable (you can see it at http://colinmurrayart.co.uk/gallery ), but it's not really ready for public distribution. How long it takes me to get it to that stage will depend on how busy i am in the meantime. I'm hoping it won't take too long, but don't hold your breath waiting! ;-)

I'll look into adding the comments thing to it.

What I think would be a good gallery system would be to have one similar to facebook's. If you click on a photo, it is automatically assigned to a page with a comments section, then you can use your left or right arrows on your keyboard to switch photos. Each photo still has it's own comment section. The only downfall I see to this process, is that the comments load separately from the photos. So maybe there is a database involved. Each photos has a tag or marker assigned to it. Then as you call up the photo, the tag or marker is pulled in the database that is used to pull the associated comments. Sure the idea sounds simple, but I am no programmer/software writer, so if someone can create this, that would be great.

again, the only downfall I could see is overhead. What if a photo has like 300+ comments, the comments section could take well over a few minutes to load. (funny how minutes have become an issue for us in this day and age, we're always in a rush!)

Anyhow, if someone creates this, please, PLEASE let me know. I would like to have the same type of setup.
