I think the answer to my own question is NO – my interpretation of the documentation is that Topic Search 1 & 2 must include some words with more than 4 characters. Is that correct?

Actually, you can leave the Topic Search 1 and Topic Search 2 and Topic Exclude keywords empty. No filtering will then be done and all articles will be passed through to the Relevance engine for classification. It is a good way to go and lets you focus on the Training process to classify good and bad articles.

The documentation is unclear on this and I’ll update it. If you do enter words they must be 4 characters unless acronyms. This will be relaxed in our next release of the cloud processing service which is soon and I’ll post here.

The new cloud processing version is up, so you can use 2 or 3 characters in your topic keywords, including numbers. See the updated documentation

    Brilliant, thankyou

BTW Yahoo Pipes (with Google Feedreader) looks to be a really powerful tool.
