[resolved] Can't add events (7 posts)

Hi Joe - great plug, but I can't add any events even as an admin. I upgraded from 1.10.12 to the current 1.11.2, cleared the My Calendar Cache (I don't have any other cache-ing plugs enabled), and made sure that the permissions are set.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Josh

to be more specific, here are the messages I'm receiving:

Error: I'm sorry! I couldn't add that event to the database.

You haven't entered any events, so My Calendar can't tell whether your database is up to date. If you can't add events, upgrade your database!

Not sure what it means by upgrading my database....?

Another update - I checked out the Behavior tab and it's saying that my current installed scripts are different than the new ones. Wouldn't these have updated when I ran the automatic update?

Either way, I checked the boxes to update these and I still can't add Events or Locations.

Not trying to nag - just trying to give you as much info as possible.

    Thanks,
    Josh

There's a stupid bug in the upgrade notice which is hiding the upgrade button which should be visible there. This has effected very few people, since the upgrade of the database goes just fine 99% of the time but...it's very confusing when it doesn't.

If you edit your admin stylesheet for My Calendar (mc-styles.css) and remove the line

    .jd-my-calendar .button-primary { position: absolute; top: -24px; right: 10px;}

then you'll be able to see the Upgrade button.

And, for your other question, no, the behavior scripts will never automatically update. They are designed to be customizable, as are the My Calendar styles, so they do not get updated when you upgrade. The notification system is so that if somebody has customized, they can make comparisons between their customizations and the current shipping version if they wish to update their customized scripts.

Thanks for the quick response Joe. I got the "Update Now" button and clicked it. After it ran the message remains, and I still can't add events.

I don't have any legacy info in My Calendar, so maybe I should try a clean install? If I remove the plugin will it clean up the db and allow a clean install?

Also, I've been holding out on upgrading to WP 3.4 due to some of my other plugins - do you think this could be part of the issue?

    Thanks,
    Josh

Assuming you're on 3.3.2, I'm sure that not having upgraded yet isn't the issue. If you're on something much earlier (like pre-3.0), then I'm much less certain.

If you don't have any info in My Calendar, there's no reason you couldn't just reinstall - but removing the plug-in does NOT remove the database tables, so you'd need to drop those tables manually.

If you could submit a support request via the Help page, I'd appreciate that.

Cool - thanks Joe. Will submit a request. Yes, we're on 3.3.2. Will it be mandatory to drop the tables for the fresh install? If so, I see 3 "my_calendar" tables. Would that be it?

    Thanks,
    Josh
