How can I confirm that the tags have been placed properly in the proper file? What file are they in and where are they located?

it's pretty much a case of going to Settings > Meta Tag Manager and adding your meta tags there. You'll see them appear within your <head> tags in your web pages as <meta .... />

Could you please tell us more?

There are three boxes to fill in:
    - reference name
    - meta name
    - content name

Please give an example of what you would have to fill in here?

    Thanks

Here is what the Codex says-

"meta name" would be either "keywords" or "description"; but like you others, I'm a bit cloudy as to "reference name" and "content name". I thought "content" was just...content?
