Are there any plans to revise the Roles Management panel to work with a large number of users?
Our blog has 45000 users and that panel will crash with an out of memory error even with 256M allocated to php. The plugin code appears to try to put the entire user table in memory at once.
In the meantime, is there an alternative method to manage user permissions for adding tags?
Really! you have 45,000 active users in your system. Your better option would be to user a role manager like http://www.im-web-gefunden.de/wordpress-plugins/role-manager/ or http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/09/17/members-wordpress-plugin
These plugins will let you assign ability by role. The Media-Tags 'ability' objects should be visible.
I'll look at the Media-Tags code. I had not anticipated that many users. I do know I'm just calling the built in WordPress user functions to build the initial listing. Then looping through to build the sub-listing.
