softwares like windows live writer do not use the wordpress edit post page so every plugin that is executed from that page does not work when you publish a post from windows live writer, I guess it is the case for this plugin too?

I totally don't use windows live writer, so I don't know.
Did you ever try it with Magic Post Thumbnail ?If no, I will try to find the time to test this instance.
