[resolved] [Plugin: Magento WordPress Integration] Occasional Garbage Displayed (6 posts)

wordpress at /. magento under /store.

I am seeing occasional garbage pages (various browsers / various locations) when displaying wordress pages from / ... haven't seen any problems in /store. Sometimes I can see the page but when I 'view source' that will be garbage.

    I suspect the page headers.

    wordpress header generates <!DOCTYPE html>, magento generates <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">.

I've changed wordpress header.php to mimic magento ... now it's wait and see if I still get the problem.

Does this make sense to you?

magento also generates <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />, whereas wp gives simply <meta charset=UTF-8" />. Do you think I should mimic this too?

You can view at woolandcompany.com if you wish.

    Thanks, Neil aka ircsome

PS I am using a child of 2011 theme ... which I think begins to exploit HTML5 ... hence the plain unvarnished <!DOCTYPE html>, I think.

What type of garbage are we talking?

unfortunately I can't reproduce the problem since I changed the <!DOCTYPE>.

However, I found this image which is pretty well how the pages looked when loaded.

I witnessed this in safari, firefox, chrome and ie9, but not always. and sometimes in the "view source" but not always.

Looks like an encoding problem, but I don't understand why it would only happen occasionally.

I would like to close this report, as I think the above may be a red herring. Unless you know something different, of course :)

I'm suspecting W3 Total Cache right now - just disabled it (it clobbered my .htaccess file on disable too!!!). Rebuilt .htaccess and I'm now running without wp caching.

    We'll see what happens now.
