Hello,
I've hit a couple of snags (Google Indexing bug) with the otherwise excellent Next Gen Gallery and I am currently testing Lazyest Gallery.
The thing which is currently making a big difference is that LG shortcodes are "human readable". NGG uses gallery and image IDs, while LG uses the actual folder and file names, which is easier on the brain, as I can look up the folder/file structure on the ftp when editing posts and pages. It looks like the only time I'll have to use the WP Add Media function is to add post/page icons.
Best regards,
Piotr
