[resolved] Accents in filenames (4 posts)

    Hi again :)

My client is a French company, so a lot of their file names have accents in them. They have uploaded a bunch of images, but all the ones with accents have 'file not found' problems.

That's not a major issue, they can rename the files. The problem is that they cannot delete any of the broken file links in lazyest gallery. When they try to do so they get a 'does not exist' error message in lazyest gallery.

I can provide a URL and WordPress login if that helps.

    Thanks!

Aha, nevermind, I just realised I can delete them via FTP and Lazyest gallery will update the image list. Good planning Marcel!

    Hi again again ;)
This is quite a persistent problem. Although Lazyest Gallery uses utf8 encoded urls, not all servers accept these urls.
I have tested it on one of my servers. mod_security blocks these urls. For Apache generated directory listings, the images with accents in file names are listed, but cannot be found when clicked.

I'm thinking abiut adding an automatic rename function where the accented file name is copied into the caption field.

"For Apache generated directory listings, the images with accents in file names are listed, but cannot be found when clicked."

That is exactly the problem. They were quite puzzled why they could upload them, but not delete them.

I'm thinking abiut adding an automatic rename function where the accented file name is copied into the caption field.

If you have time and there is much demand, that would be a great solution! FTP is a mysterious techy thing for my client :)
