@jubbz,
For clarity, are you receiving this error when opening the Media Overlay while editing a post, or when going to the Media Library in the admin section?
Also, out of curiosity how many items do you have in your media library?
Thanks.

It’s the media Overlay. You know the area where you click the little video icon at the editor while making a post? And it opens up the menu, and you click on “Gallery” or “Media Library” to insert a video into a post?
It’s those that show “500 internal server error” when the plugin is turned on.
I can access the media library in the admin section just fine through the sidebar, it’s just that i can’t access it through the Posting menu.
as for how many items… Do you mean how many pieces of Media? Like, how many videos/pictures/audio files I have?
Or do you mean the menus in the media library? Because i only have images, Audio, and Video. (And of course, “All Types”).
I meant how many actual media items you have… specifically images as we have uncovered an issue with the thumbnail dropdown leading to high resource usage.
This might be causing your server issue.

mmm
22,453 images and counting.
70 videos and counting
28 audio files and counting.
So you’re telling me to get rid of my images? >_>
Hi Jubbz,
I’m not suggesting you get rid of your images. It’s just that the image thumbnail selector currently doesn’t limit the number of images you can choose from. WordPress also doesn’t cache this query so basically every time you view a page of media in the media overlay you’re loading 224530 images.
In an upcoming release I’m going to cap these queries which should hopefully fix your problem.
Thanks.

Ah, i see. Thanks!
I had no idea that that was the issue, but thanks for clarifying. I’ll just wait for your next release then. 🙂
