Joomla/Mambo To WordPress Migrator
[resolved] Importing spam users, NOT any content (14 posts)

Hello. I have tried for a bit to get this working, but haven't had any luck. Initially, I was getting MySQL errors but finally realized that I needed a database user with authorization on both (duh). So then I ran it, and no content was imported.

What WAS imported were thousands of users never activated on my Joomla site, which was weird. Since they were unconfirmed, they were all spammers... so after spending hours cleaning up my users before importing to the new site (I imported users first in the hopes that this plugin would connect their content to their user names), I now have thousands added and need to remove them from my WP site. That was just weird. Also very inconvenient.

In the end of that attempt, I got to a page that simply says:
Joomla To WordPress Migration - Status Messages

    Below it, there is nothing.

I tried to run it through with just one category, but the same thing happened. Status Messages with nothing below it, and 6K spam users imported instead.

I will change it with the next release - thanks for the hint. if you want do the migration, you can delete those users on the joomla side adn then start the migraton.

    actually the migration should work.

do you have any anti virus software on your local pc? they may hold the output from the php script until it is finished. if it runs to long it may abort.
look if you can set the script runtime limit.
I am setting it in the plugin too, but sometimes the webhoster do not allow to change this php value.

with one category it should work.

next week a new release will be available, please try it again with this release and let me know.

it should work now with the latest releases as I am importing only users qwhich are not blocked.
Otherwise please send me an mysql full dump of your joomla installation - then I can test it.

    Hi Christian,

Could you tell me if your plugin would delete the original database of Joomla? I'm working on a site, but Joomla is still the official site, while WP is the beta site. It's a silly question, but please confirm!

    Thanks

@MiniComplainer I have used the several of the versions of this plugin from version 1.3.x and up and none of them change or delete any information in Joomla.

    Hello @Xenaco,

Thank you for your information! I gave it a try, and it works--EXCEPT user passwords are not migrated! I have about 1000 users in this project that I'm working on, I do not want to lose any users because of password retrieval issues, do you or anyone has an idea?

I had been researching about this same issue before trying Joomla2WP too, I stumbled upon a post saying that Joomla uses 100 chars while WordPress uses 64. I am wondering if anyone has had any success...

I will look if it is possible to insert the password value from joomla into the wordpress table and if they have the same encrypt algorithm.
if so, i will upload a new release of this plugin.

    please take a look at:

    http://www.liferay.com/community/forums/-/message_boards/message/3714269

it is not possible to decrypt the joomla passwords - so you have to reset the passwords of all your users and send them an email.

    Hey Christian, Happy New Year!

I upgraded to 1.3.4, delete all of my users, and re-migrate the site, still does not work. Users are migrated, but not the passwords. However, from your plugin page, it sounds like the issue has been resolved

    Could you confirm?

    Thank you,
