• When searching for new plugins via my sites [all of them] with v2.7, the search never works. For example, I search for the plugin Post Templates, yet it always comes up with irrelevant plugins.

The same thing happens when I search from wordpress.org itself. But, when I search Google for “wordpress, Post Templates” it finds it immediately.

It’s not just this plugin, but anything I search for.

Also, why is there no option to install a plugin straight from wordpress.org or from the site. I have to download the .zip and browse for it. Lame. The plugin this replaced did it just fine.

Does anyone else have this problem? I hope it’s not just me and it’s a bug with WP. I love v2.7, but this is really pissing me off.

  • The search just isn’t very good. Google is way better. Everyone is hoping they can improve the search. This applies to the Plugins search, and the Themes search, and the Search for this support forum, and the Search offered within WordPress itself. They don’t rank for relevance very well. They offer a lot of false leads if your search word is general, or they stumble easily when you’re overly specific and then the search yields no results.

The plugin search may be the worst, I agree it hardly works at all right now. I have searched an exact plugin name and it often doesn’t come up.

It helps to use the fewer words for your search term (like 1 word), then page thru the results (6 pages for example) to find the one you want.

If you know the exact logged-in name of the Plugin Author, you can use the little drop-down to change it to search by author name. Then you may have more luck.

As a workaround example: Go to Google, find the plugin, copy the Author name. Now go back to your WP-Admin > Plugins > Add New Plugin > Search > Author Search drop-down > Paste in the author name. It can give you a list of plugins by that author, and then the “one-click plugin install” from within WP is possible.

Thanks. I’m just glad it’s not just me.
