Plugin idea - Syntax coloured theme editor? (6 posts)

How hard would it be to build a syntax coloured theme editor plugin for WordPress? Would it be a useful thing to have?

Personally I get bored when using an external text editor as I have to save in that, switch to my FTP program, upload the file, and switch back to Firefox to see the result. Working straight into the Theme Editor is much faster, as I just switch between that, and another tab containing the page in question.

    What do you think?

Thanks Lorelle, all of these seem to be for posts on a blog though, I meant something that would colour-code a text file when viewed inside the Theme Editor of the dashboard?

Extremely hard indeed if you're looking for a editor and not just a viewer.

Well I don't know about syntax highlighting, but this plugin comes in awfully handy:

    http://www.theoneandtheonly.com/wordpress-editor-search/

Gives you a search code and go to line feature.

The thing about syntax highlighting how be that it is edited through a textarea and adding inline elements to that might not work...
