I created a simple stand-alone Custom Object to do some testing on, but it doesn't show up when, in Step 1 of creating a new Feed, I click "Refresh Lists." In fact, there are only two Custom Objects listed there, out of 12 deployed Custom Objects in this Enterprise Edition instance. The two that are listed are from manages packages.
