I keep receiving the red x in the status when I submit my sitemap. I can see the site map in the url fine. There is no doubling up of pages. The robots.txt is in place. I tried various tactics I've read on boards like dropping the priority score of the home page, but am unable to make the submission of the sitemap work. I would appreciate any help on this.
Thanks!

Hi,
I have this issue too and it looks like a few others have had it for a while as well - I'm suspecting and a conflict with Wordpres 3.0.1 and the sitemap plugin maybe?
My site is
http://www.dangerousgoodstransport.com/sitemap.xml
I found that my XML Sitemap Generator plugin was set to add additional pages as recommended by the description for that section which states:
"Here you can specify files or URLs which should be included in the sitemap, but do not belong to your Blog/WordPress.
For example, if your domain is http://www.foo.com and your blog is located on http://www.foo.com/blog you might want to include your homepage at http://www.foo.com"
It seems that google doesn't like multiple version of a URL in the sitemap. I removed the additional pages in that section of the plugin setup and now get the green checkmark for my sitemap files.
