I always get "URLs improperly formatted" errors from google webmaster tools.
I resorted to using my hosts sitemap tools, which work just fine with google.
I kept the plugin active to notify websites such as bing and yahoo updated with my sitemap.

I get the same error and if I delete the schema data it's fine. But next update fails again and so on. Beats me why a very standard XML file requires an XSL
