Google Doc Embedder
[resolved] Embedding xls file (5 posts)

I seem to be running into problems viewing excel sheets in the viewer. PDfs are showing up fine but I keep getting "Sorry, we are unable to generate a view of the document at this time. Please try again later."

Is this a message generated by the plugin or google? I'm pretty sure I've embedded the files correctly since my PDFs worked.

Any insight or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I don't see the plugin being used on that page.

The message you mention is Google generated, but the plugin may come in to play along the way - I'd have to see the URL and error message to know for sure. You can post here or use the "Support" link in your plugin list or the footer of the settings page.

Sorry Kevin, I've activated the plugin again and turned on the the error checking and display error inline settings to see if there was anything but there wasn't. If you could take another look, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

    Hi jbierman,

The issue here is that the file you're linking to, while it ends in XLS, is actually an HTML document. When I open it in Excel, it warns me of this (extension doesn't match file type). I save it as a native XLS document, and it embeds normally using GDE, with no (obvious) loss of formatting.

    Hope this helps!

You are indeed correct. You are indeed correct. I wold never have figured that out. The file was saved from an online app. I never questioned it once and uploaded it as is and assuming it was what the file extension said it was.

Appreciate the help very much. And thank you for you good work.
