Google Doc Embedder
Embedding Error: (200:OK) (3 posts)

I'm having a weird problem with the Google Doc Embedder plugin. I'm using it mainly for the purpose of embedding PDF files, stored on a dedicated server in my office (yes, it's publicly accessible).

When I try to embed a file using the normal tag, the page shows nothing. Viewing the source shows this error:

<!-- GDE EMBED ERROR: retrieve error (200:OK), use force="1" to bypass this check -->

It works perfectly if I add the force tag, but since the documentation says not to use that except for debugging I'm a bit wary of it. Does it do any harm to use that as a general rule?

I have tested both with a PDF (~6MB) and a TIFF (~400kb) with the same results.

I agree that's strange. Rather than add the force=1 to every link, you might rather turn off internal error checking in GDE options (advanced). You'll have to be careful that your links are good or else you'll get the viewer but nothing in it, but at least it should behave correctly.

    Hope that helps,

Yeah, that should work. It's a small and heavily moderated environment and there are only a couple of people who will ever be posting these files, so links are easy enough to verify.
