   My plugin has been extracted into my FTP plugin folder but I cannot see it to activate it in my WP plugin folder. Can someone please suggest a reason for this?

   Can you provide the exact path that you extracted it to and what the plugins name is please?

   /httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/misiek-paypal

   That is the path and the plug in is called Misiek Paypal

   If you are using 2.8.4 it may not be compatible. The plugin page says it's ok up to 2.7.1 and it has not been updated since march. You could always try to find a different plugin for your needs: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=paypal

   Edit: Sorry I don't know much about plugin issues.
