Genesis Style Select
This plugin is great, but not exactly what I was looking for (5 posts)

Hi, great plugin! However, I do have a nitpick. The description wording for this plugin is a bit misleading, because it says "users", but perhaps it should really say "admins" because this plugin only enables those with back end access to switch styles. :(

I am looking for a way to enable my site visitors to switch styles from the front end. It would be great if this plugin included functionality that gives us (the admins) the ability to enable our site visitors to select/view styles from a list.

Any way that may be possible any time in the (near) future?

Sorry for the confusion. I'll look into rewording that in the future. This is the first time I remember hearing this complaint, but likely others has a similar experience.

I have looked into some front end options, I even have something setup on the demo for my Production theme that I might make available in the future, but even that doesn't make a permanent selection for the front end user, it just lets the user view available color options.

Something could be done, either requiring users to join the site to choose their permanent style option or make use of a long expire cookie, but at this time I do not have any plans to make something like that.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I apologize if it sounded like I was complaining...I just misunderstood the purpose of the plugin. It's actually pretty great! I too want to let the user view available color options, not necessarily a permanent style for the visitor, but more of a demo to show off my mad CSS skills. :) I've been researching, and realize I probably will need to install some scripts and do some actual coding to achieve the front end switcheroo.

    Thanks again, Nick!

ah, well the plugin I'm working up will do what you want
    http://nickc.co/production

Look at the color selection menu there. Although I'd like to work with the guys (and gal) at spyr media to get the one on their theme demo
    http://in.spyr.me/

It is on the left and is super cool. Both work about the same way, using a bit of javascript to change the body class, which is how those themes work. My javascript is super simple.

Everything is mostly functional on the menu creation, but I don't have the color options being created dynamically, which means you have to make some manual php edits to the plugin files, not really an ideal solution.

I'll see about wrapping up the basic plugin in the next week, once Easter week stuff dies down.

    Hi Nick,

Yes, the spyr media theme demo options selector is very cool! I appreciate your response here, again. Meanwhile, I'll be busy cooking up some new style sheets/color combos in readiness for your new color switcher plugin!
