   Something broke... the native wordpress AJAX is not working on my site (for example the widget area wouldn't let me open/close widget area so I could drag/drop widgets into them.)

   I deactivated all plugins and traced it to GD Star Rating. AJAX works when I have GD Star Rating deactivated.

   Yes, it's happening on some (not all) WP installations. I am working on a solution, and it should be up over the weekend.
