[resolved] Plugin for Private Site with Social Network Registration (7 posts)

    Hello,

I have been searching for two days for a plugin that will meet some specific needs, and I have not found one that clearly (according to documentation and screen shots) does what I am looking for.

I have a self-hosted WordPress blog that I need to be Private, because it contains information about my family that I don't want to be Public.

I only want known friends and family to be able to access the site.

However, instead of requiring my friends/family to setup a username/password just for my site, I want them to be able to register with their social network credentials such as Facebook, Google, and Twitter. That way, they do not have to remember a separate username and password. Instead, they can just click the FB button and be logged-in using those credentials.

In order to keep the site private, I think I'd need a page in my Admin Dashboard that shows anyone that registers (i.e. "knocks") so that I can either deny the request or grant it. Until I verify them, they should not be able to see the site. Likewise, if I reject them, they should not see the site.

I know there are plugins (ex. http://wordpress.org/plugins/jonradio-private-site/) that make sites private, but they require users to create a new username/password just for my site. I believe the plugin "Private Facebook" (http://wordpress.org/plugins/private-facebook/) also gets close for Facebook users, but not all of my family and friends are FB users. So, I also need the ability for people to use Google or Twitter...and preferably, also give them the option to just create a username and password for the site, if they desire.

I think it is fine if the plugin does some "behind the scenes" work to just translate a persons FB, Google, or Twitter credentials into a "standard" WP login just for my site. I just want to make sure that the Plugin can always make the connection between the user's Social Network credentials and the WP credentials it creates for my site and seamlessly allows people to login with their Social Network credentials.

Sorry for the long post, but I'm hoping someone can guide me to a plugin (or plugins) that fit my needs.

    Thank you!

Not to dissuade others from responding, but I will report back here when I've figured out if jonradio Private Site can be used with other plugin(s) to make this happen.

I'm currently using the Members plugin (http://wordpress.org/plugins/members/) to accomplish a less elegant solution.

Resolved via a custom plugin (credit to creator of Members plugin for this solution), along with the Members plugin.

I'm in the same scenario - are you open to sharing the custom plugin?
