   I see that if one use wordpress.com it creates a file name similar to the subject of your post.
   Example:
   http://pietpetoors.wordpress.com/2009/01/17/can-you-make-money-from-forex-trading/

   But if I create a new subject on the blog on my own domain it just gives it an ID
   Example:
   http://pietpetoors.com/blog/?p=3

   Is there a plugin I can install on my own blog which will enable my blog to also create a unique file name instead of an ID?

   You don’t need a plugin. :-)

   Go to Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks, and you’ll see the options there.

   The default for self-hosted WordPress installations is what you have now. The Permalinks page has some common combinations for you to choose, and you can also define your own structure.
