[resolved] Any possibility to customize the flattr-Button?? (7 posts)

    Hi everyone!

I'm using the flattr-Plugin (Version 0.9.24 with WP-Version 3.1.4.) and it seems to work awesomely well, but I've got one big question/request:

Is there any possibility to style the flattr-Button? (would love to use a minimalized, greyscale-Version of the flattr-Button) Or at least an option to choose which 'Preset-flattr-Button' is used with the plugin.

    Best Regards and thanks

    Lucas

The answer is no. There is no way to style the JavaScript implementation of the button. This is a limitation by design. (by Flattr, not by me ;) )

I'm experimenting with a static button version that would allow for some styling with JS/CSS but I haven't figured it all out yet. Stay tuned...

ahh too bad. Can't understand why flattr wouldn't allow people to make their button look good!? It's not like green/orange is a decent color :-(

@perfectlyBoring: The answer is pretty simple - it's due to security reasons. If you could style our button you could make it look like something completely different than a flattr button and people clicking it might not be aware that they have clicked a flattr button at all.

If you want to style a button - then you would need to use a static button - which could be based around the same concept as our new WordPress.com support: http://flattrchattr.com/2011/06/20/flattr-in-wordpress-com/

Ahhh makes Sense now, thanks for clearing things up, wasn't aware of the security reason.
Anyway, a few more option would be awesome: For example using an flattr Button without the counter [makes the Button sooooo big :-( ] but not the "flattr this"-Button. Just "flattr". Or even just the Symbol. And some color-options would come in handy, too...
Thanks for the Link, unfortunately I can't find the "Sharing"-Settings in my german WordPress-Installation!?

Awesome, I'm staying tuned for sure!

Styling the static button with CSS works nice. What I would need is to add the counter, anybody managed to do that using REST API?

@gerital: You should be able to use http://developers.flattr.net/api/resources/things/#check-if-a-thing-exists or http://developers.flattr.net/api/resources/things/#get-a-thing depending on whether you know the id of the flattr thing or not. We support both JSONP and CORS in our API so you should be able to easily do the requests in javascript if you like.
