Custom templates stopped working... (13 posts)

I was using a couple of custom templates but for some reason they stopped working. They are also no longer available in the Default Values > Template dropdown in the Media Settings page. not sure what has caused this, nothing has changed. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

When I view the source of my page with the gallery shortcode inserted I see the folloowing inside:

<!-- file does not exist: myTheme/gallery.css - using default style-->

This wasn't there last week, it was wrking fine then.

@kevinvaughn: did you update File Gallery since last week? Which version of the plugin and WordPress are you using? And lastly, where are your custom templates stored?

I hope we can fix this soon :|

    Thanks Aesqe,

Yes, I think another person that works on the site updated it yesterday. I think that's when it happened. Earlier today I tried to go back to the previous version but that didn't help.

The site is using WordPress 3.2.1 with File Gallery 1.6.5.6 (not sure if this is the latest version).

My templates reside in a folder called "file-gallery-templates" in my theme's folder.

OK, I would suggest you try the latest development version of File Gallery, 1.7-RC12. v1.7 final will be released in a day or two, when WordPress 3.3 is out, and I doubt there will be any changes from RC12 to release version.

You can download it from here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/file-gallery/download/.

Yikes, that didn't work so well and it is still not reading my templates.

    I still getting the...
<!-- file does not exist: myTheme/gallery.css - using default style-->
...comment output in my code when I view source.

This is really strange; I am now also getting the text, "\n \n \n" output at the top of my gallery pages, which messes up my wordpress menus.

I am also using media tags to filter which images or documents get added to which gallery and that no longer works.

    Uggghhh...

I am using the twentyten theme with the bbPress twentyten child theme. I figured out that the plugin reads my templates only if I have them in two locations:

    /wp-content/themes/bbp-twentyten/file-gallery-templates/...
    and
    /wp-content/plugins/bbpress/bbp-themes/bbp-twentyten/file-gallery-templates/...

Remove either one and File Gallery will not read or apply my templates.

Very strange... I could be wrong but, it looks to me that the plugin checks to see if the files exist in the first location but then reads and applies them from the second location.

Thanks for letting me know about this, it's a situation I did not check for.

I've finally managed to activate bbPress TwentyTen theme locally and I'll fix this today.

I'll post an update here a bit later.

Thanks Aesqe for your quick response to my questions! File Gallery really is one of the best gallery plugins out there. I tried several before settling on this one. In the meantime I have implemented the above workaround and all is working fine.

    hi,

I use file gallery Version 1.6.5.6 and WordPress 3.2.1. , as far as I can see that is the latest version of your plugin. I have put my gallery.css which is my template in a folder inside the file-gallery-templates folder and have given it the name of my template. I have changed my selector in the css from default to the name of the folder it resides in. The name of my template does show up in the file gallery template list and I have set it as my default. I use [gallery] to include the galleries in my posts and pages

but file-gallery keeps using the default gallery. In the source it only includes the default css style and there is no trace of my template

as far as I can see I have done everything right and I have no idea why it doesn't work.

can you give me any clue why this is happening and what I may have done wrong?

@2grafik: the 'template' argument must be present in the shortcode. The settings on the media settings page affect only the admin interface of File Gallery, not the actual gallery output.

If you want to use a custom default template without specifying one in your shortcodes, you can use the following three filters to achieve that:

    file_gallery_default_template_url, file_gallery_default_template_abspath and file_gallery_default_template_name

File Gallery v1.7-RC13 is out, please download it from here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/file-gallery/download/.

I hope everything works alright :)

I've made slight changes in the interface - please comment if it's better or worse than before ;)

The templates should be properly accounted for in this version, whether they're located in "wp-content/file-gallery-templates" folder, your theme's folder, or within file gallery folder.

    @Aesqe

Yea I just figured that out , I didn't realize the "standard" WordPress insert gallery button doesn't give the right short-code. So I assumed that wasn't necessary to add an extra option to the short-code

I realized then that the ones in your plugin menu do give the right short-code. but the fact you wrote "yes, those are click-able buttons :)" in your help file seems to tell that I am not the only one confused by this, maybe you should include an example of short-code in the help-file.

but now it works great, feels very robust and stable in contrast to some other plugins, so thanks for your help and the plugin. I will install the new version and give feedback if I notice something better or worse.:-)
