How Is This Plugin Allowed to Be in Depository? (5 posts)

This plugin doesn't meet fundamental requirements for being in the WP depository - it displays a backlink by default and offers no easy way to disable it. This goes way against the idea of open source and hence should be removed and banned from WP depository immediately.

    Gee you are harsh.
The “Powered By” link is not mandatory, yes you can turn it off in options, here is how:

Go to the Fast Secure Contact Form Options page, click on “Advanced Options”, then uncheck this setting: “Enable plugin credit link:”

There are only a few requirements developers need to meet in order to have their plugin listed in the depository and they are clearly mentioned on http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/about/

Number 4 of the requirements reads:

The plugin must not embed external links on the public site (like a "powered by" link) without explicitly asking the user's permission.

Once again, this plugin should not be allowed in the depository and should be removed and banned immediately!

In spite of this rule you mentioned, half of the plugins I have run into had the link turned on by default and a few of them didn't even have an option to turn it off. If WordPress pulled all the plugins off that had that option set by default to on...then it would have shot itself in the foot. As a general rule, the most powerful free plugins have this option turned on. By the way, it's called a repository.
