I really appreciate the plugin that you have made available. I am using this plugin on two different sites, one for our church and one for our radio station and both are having problems with the Captcha image. In Firefox 3.6.3, on our radio station site, there is no image and when you click on the refresh button nothing happens, if you click on the speaker icon to listen it gives a 500 Internal Server error. In IE8 it shows a box with a red "X" where the image should be. On our churches site, in Firefox 3.6.3, it is the same except if you click the speaker icon, it takes you to the home page. It does the same in IE8. If I click on the test link in the admin panel it takes me to the site home page as well. Here is links for both of our sites:

Thanks for any help you can give.

The wsof site has a internal server error. I am unable to determine the cause. The clues could be in a server error log. You could look for that.

The ifbc site looks like it has a mod rewrite rule that is too aggressive, it is rewriting all files in the plugin directory to the front page. Even the readme txt in the test directory.

Make sure the permalinks are setup correctly because it could be the cause. also check the WP settings in Admin - Settings - General
    WordPress address (URL)
    Blog address (URL)

Good luck, let me know how it goes.

Ok, I'll take one site at a time and hopefully what fixes one will fix the other. The ifbc site, I went to my control; panel and looked at my error log. This is what it says when after I have clicked on the speaker icon to read the image: SoftException in Application.cpp:601: Directory "/----/----/------_----/---/wp-content" is writeable by group, referer: http://www.ifbc.wsof.org/contact-us/.

I put in the dashes myself to hide the info. I am unfamiliar with the mod rewrite rule, is it possible to modify it to correct this problem and if so where would I access it? I checked my WordPress url and blog address url and they are the same. I also set the permalinks back to the default setting and still get the same results. One note of interest, If I type in this address,

    http://www.ifbc.wsof.org/wp-content/plugins/si-contact-form/readme.txt

it works. But if you try to access anything in the captcha image folder it gives you the file not found as you have pointed out. This directory is there but why would it act like it isn't?

I think I may have figured it out. It hit me that it mentioned the directory "wp-content" was writable by group. I checked the file permissions of the wp-content folder and found that it was set to 777. I set it to 755 and now it works. Is this the correct setting for this folder?

755 is normal for most servers.

Ok, I changed the file permissions of the wp-content folder for both of my sites and everything appears to be fixed. I am marking this issue resolved. Thanks Mike for your help and the great plug-ins that you have made available to us!
