All this does is put "facebook comments" above my wordpress comments box. Nothing else. Too bad, too. Good plugin in theory.

Did you create a Facebook application and insert the proper application ID?
Detailed instructions (w/ screenshots) are here: http://grahamswan.com/facebook-comments
If you don't use a valid ID, the plugin will still try to load the comments box but nothing will show because there's nothing happening on the Facebook end.
Next version, I'll make sure it checks that the application ID is valid.
Thanks for the feedback Stephanie. :-)
I did. Without the ID, I got the box telling me to insert it. When inserted it, I only got the words "Facebook comments" with no fields to write anything.
I also noticed each time I went back to the plugin settings page, my settings would be gone.
Are you using IE 7 or below, by chance? I don't think the comments load properly with older versions of IE.
Keep in mind that this is Facebook's first release of the external commenting system, so if it's not loading properly, it's most likely due to their implementation of it. I've found several bugs that are on their side already.
In the next version of this plugin, I'm going to add a [facebook-comments] tag so you can insert it anywhere you choose. That may solve some problems.
I think i have the same problem. i use Firefox v3.6.3 an a valid Facebook ID (15 digit). The only thing that happens in frontend is:
<div style="margin: 20px 0pt;">
<p style="margin-bottom: 15px; font-size: 140%; font-weight: bold; border-bottom: 2px solid rgb(0, 0, 0); padding-bottom: 5px;">Facebook comments:</p>
<fb:comments width="500" numposts="10"></fb:comments>
</div>
the fb:comments-tag is nothing showing in browser.
I'll look into compatibility issues for the next version (arriving next week), but as far as I know, that's a Facebook API problem.
Odd that it doesn't work in Firefox 3.x though...
Are there not some more parametres required for fb:comments (such as xid)?
http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Fb:comments
;)
Ah, thanks, my friend. I'll add several of those in the next version early next week.
That will solve some of the issues for sure!
FYI, the plugin works for me but, periodically, my Facebook ID will forget my Facebook ID.
Your Facebook ID will forget your Facebook ID? Typo?
I'm going to put a new version up within the next 24 hours. Hopefully it will solve your problem.
Got the exact same problem on this page:
http://lazer.rdns.net/~kraftis/2010/05/hello-world/
and using firefox aswell, so can't wait for your update :)
Thanks for a otherwise greate plugin!
I put a new version up that fixes the bug where settings get erased. I tested it and all seems well.
Another version should arrive within the next week with some new features that have been requested.
I was having the same problem, but if i left the browser window for a few minutes, it would eventually load.
Think it might be down to facebook being slow, or other scripts on the page taking a while to finish loading (flash ads for example)
A slightly off topic question I've got tho is this - If i'm switching to this from the default comments, I'm going to have both comment boxes on the page, but if i remove the wordpress comments from my theme, i'll lose all existing comments - is there a way to merge/migrate the two?
Hey Andy,
The issue with comments taking time to load is definitely on Facebook's side. This is the first release of their Social Graph widgets, so they're bound to have problems here and there.
There is no way to merge the comments, unfortunately. I looked through the API and could find no way to add comments under someone's name. This makes sense, because they don't want you to be able to make it look like certain people are saying things they may not be.
Oh, look at this: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Comments.add
I guess I completely missed that page before. So it is possible after all!
Perhaps I'll work that into a future version.
Yeah, sorry about that typo. The plugin would forget the Facebook ID and I would have to go back in and add the ID back in. After that, seems to work fine.
Cheers!!
Version 1.2 is now available: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/facebook-comments-for-wordpress/
There are several new options and a few critical bugfixes.
Questions and comments can continue being posted here.
This is excellent except that at mine http://web-rave.com/2010/05/what-do-you-want-from-the-election/ you can see that someone who isn't logged in to facebook cannot write their name or email because it is constantly overwritten.
Hmmm, that's odd. I've seen it work on numerous other sites, but the code on your page is identical.
I'll go through the API one more time and see if there are any settings for that to be included in the next version.
I have a kind of random question too. I already had a "like" button on my posts for facebook, and the plug-in seems to add one too (though I didn't see that feature on any of the screenshots, so maybe it's just my site doing something), but if it is part of the plug-in is there anyway to turn the option off? Or will I have to disable the other "like" button I already had? (I assume there is no way to merge "likes" here.) Sorry for the question, or if this is the wrong place to post my question, but I just added the plug-in and as is it looks a little clunky (http://www.inawildflower.com)
Thanks,
-Cari
Hi saneuie,
I've noticed the Like button shows up on some installations and not on others. There's obviously a reason behind this--I just need to dive a little deeper and figure out why.
Once I figure out the scenarios where it appears, I'll try and find a way to disable it and make that an option.
Cheers!
Hi all,
Version 1.3 of the plugin has just been released. Includes a few bugfixes, anonymous posting support, and a redesigned settings page.
Let me know of any issues or suggestions. IE support is coming in the next version.
Cheers!

With a valid APP id and the latest version of WordPress MU and this plugin, I'm still getting nothing under the Facebook Comments title below each post.
http://fridaynighttitans.com/blog/2010/06/04/whats-new-with-fnt-in-twenty-ten/
Here's an example post.
Awolverine, I don't see anything on that page right now.
Also, do you have Facebook Like button plugins installed. They currently cause conflicts that I'm working on resolving.
I get nothing too on my page (not even the Facebook comments title).
Already included the line of code in my single post template file
btw - already took away previously added code for 'Like' button, so its not a conflict, as far as I can tell. :(
Tessina, try with v1.5, which was just released and see if that works.

I installed it and works great for past posts but when I put up a new post the FB comments is not there?
Ok so it will only show up once I have had a comment on my blog (not fb comments), is there a way around this? I am using AJAXed wordpress plugin for the comments section
Argghhh! I'm just about to give up and deactivate...I installed everything properly, but all I get is "Facebook Comments" underlined at the bottom of my post, but none of the actual comments from Facebook.
This problem has been brought up in this thread...did anyone find a solution to it yet?
