Events Manager
Issues after 5.1.1 to 5.1.6 upgrade - 404 on Events page (24 posts)

Running WordPress 3.3.1, I deactivated the plugin then did the automatic upgrade from 5.1.1 to 5.1.6 and reactivated the plugin. W3 Total Cache directed me to empty the page cache.

My Events page (set in Events/Settings/Pages/Events List Archive/Events page) gives a 404. When I change it to another page then that one gives 404.
I have gone to Settings/Permalinks page and Saved.

Also, "Show events search?" does not appear to do anything. I have set it to No and Saved and set to Yes and Saved.
    I can see:
    var EM = {"ajaxurl" ....
in the HTML though it seems to be related to booking.

This page simply uses the events_list shortcode. It used to be the Events page:
    http://www.irishtriathlon.com/index.php/race-calendar/

This is the current Events page and gives a 404:
    http://www.irishtriathlon.com/index.php/rc-test/

As I test I added the search form as a shortcode so that the race calendar had the following content:
    [ event_search_form ]
    [ events_list ]

The form goes to the Events page, which is a 404.

If I have no events page set then the Search form stays on the race calendar page but does not display any results, just the full event list.

I have removed the search form so as not confuse site visitors.

The server is Zeus Web Server on Linux, not IIS.
I would be very very reluctant to change the slug because of SEO.

It doesn't explain why I get 404 for a new Events page.

Ah, I thought only IIS did this.

I'm thinking that WP is having issues with this (i.e. a WP bug), because we're using normal WP CPTs now, meaning that we're not doing any heavy lifting anymore r.e. permalinks.

Maybe changing the events slug may help?

    http://www.irishtriathlon.com/index.php/rc-test/
    changed to
    http://www.irishtriathlon.com/index.php/rc-cal/
It still gives a 404 error.

If you think it is a WP bug, do you have any suggestions on debugging it? Maybe turning WP_DEBUG on?
Does EM have a hook when a page is set as the Events page?

EM hooks into the_content, so there's nothing we're doing that I can think of that'd prevent this happening. I can't think of what the bug would be though.

Does it work if you disable EM and resave your permalinks? If not, then it can't be an EM problem for sure.

i also noticed your other issue in your original question, that's not normal, you need to fix that (your theme), as that should be inside your < head > tags.

The page works correctly when I disable EM and resave permalinks.

For the other issue (I guess you mean "var EM" bit), that is probably unrelated. It is in the 'head' area.

If I installed 5.1.1 (the previously installed version and it worked), will there be any issues?
Is the database schema version the same?

yes, should be fine, no recent changes to the db i think.

if you can set me up with a test server with some FTP info and running a copy of your site with this issue (or don't mind me outputting some wp_query info on your live site somewhere), I'd not mind having a look and see if there's something we can do.

if interested, use the contact form on the plugin site and reference this page pls.

Definitely interested. Contact form on http://wp-events-plugin.com used to provide FTP info for live site.

    Thank you.

sorry, I've not had time due to some delays caused by pc issues here (happened roughly when I last posted you).

I'll probably need another week before I can check this out....

    @Marcus: Any update?

As this plugin is a core feature of my site, is it worth me upgrading to the Pro plugin?

sorry still no, sitting in my inbox, normally this'd get done a lot faster but of course every time a pro user asks something, they would take priority over yours (especially since nobody else is getting this)

    I understand.

So, upgrading to Pro could help me. And would reflect the importance of the plugin for me. And my appreciation of your work.

If I upgrade, will I retain all my entries and other data?

It would... but I did just whiz by your site and I see that it's working now (or at least i looked at an event page and it worked), is that the case after you updated to 5.1.7?

You don't lose any data on upgrades.

Mind you, I see a wierd address there - http://www.irishtriathlon.com/index.php/index.php/race-calendar/tramore-sprint-triathlon/

the two index.php 's would indicate a WP problem more than EM.

    > Mind you, I see a wierd address there
Turned out to be a EM settings issue - under Settings/Pages/Permalink Slugs had an unnecessary "index.php/" in each of the 4 fields. Removing them sorted that.

The big problem is that the Events Page returns 404, as mentioned in the original post.
    http://www.irishtriathlon.com/index.php/rc-cal/

    Still on 5.1.6.

    Upgraded to 5.1.7. No change.

    Events Page still 404:
    http://www.irishtriathlon.com/index.php/rc-cal/
Search Events box does not appear above the race calendar.

looking through, i don't see mention of this, did you try disabling your other plugins and reverting to the default theme to see if it helps?

Though I realise that this is a good debugging technique, there are too many active plugins to do this and it would mean too much downtime. It's a commercial site.

I am going to delve into the code to try to trace why the Events Page is 404.
