[resolved] iCal link, working with iPhone? (16 posts)

    Hello,

Is there (or can there be?) a feature to get an iCal-link for each event that works with iPhone, just like there is one now for Google Calendar?
    Many thanks, E.

Do you have an idea of when 1.6 will be ready? Really like your plugin and it's perfect for a client except for this missing detail.

    Hi eBierek,

Sorry for the delay. End of October is the planned release date for 1.6.

Just to clarify - are you referring to the agenda widget, or the [eo_subscribe] shortcode?

    Stephen

    Hello Stephen,

No worries. I'm referring to a calendar link for each event ([eo_subscribe]), that works with iCal/iPhone, just like the one you have already for Google calendar. So user can add the event to her/his own calendar just by clicking the link.

    It's a great plugin!
    Thank you in advance,
    /E

End of October was a bit optimistic :).

It's practically ready to go, I'm holding fire until WP3.5 comes out (that should be out on the 5th I think).

The **beta** version is available here, for testing: https://github.com/stephenh1988/Event-Organiser/tree/dev

I've added the 'ical' attribute to the subscribe link. This creates a link to the ICS feed (so you'll need to enable this in the settings). This *should* be recognised by iPhone/iPad. I don't own one, so please test it and let me know if it works!

    Hi,

Ok, I will definitely test it and get back to you.
    Thanks for the beta! :)

This was included in 1.6 - you can find out more here: http://wp-event-organiser.com/blog/1-6-released/

    Hi again,
I have had a chance to test this now and sorry to say that [eo_subscribe title="Subscribe to our events" type="webcal"] Subscribe to Events [/eo_subscribe] does not work with iPhone (ical).

[eo_subscribe title="Prenumerera med Google kalender" type="google"] Subscribe to Events with GC [/eo_subscribe] works great for Google Calendar though.

I think this shortcode must produce an event_name.ics link to be downloaded to the iphone/Apple Calendar app.

Yes, generating an ics for that event is what it should be doing (as per http://stackoverflow.com/questions/168440/how-do-you-add-a-link-that-will-add-an-event-to-your-iphone-calendar-from-safari). There didn't seem to be an alternative.

Is the ics file generating OK?

[eo_subscribe title="Subscribe to our events" type="webcal"] Subscribe to Events [/eo_subscribe]

gives me an error on both iPhone and Calendar app on Mac computer (via Chrome). This is the error message: "The data downloaded from webcal://www.domain.com?feed=eo-events isn’t valid."

    ---
Is it possible to produce an ics-file for just one event? Not the whole calendar?
For example, create a link like: "Add THIS event to my calendar".

Mmm... it should only be trying to the ics file for the particular event you're on. I'll look into that.

Otherwise, it seems that this error and the other one you posted could be related? (Isn't valid == space at beginning of file).

Seconding the hope for a .ics file for an individual event - subscribing to this thread :)

Hi again, sorry for late reply. If the general website feed is broken (www.domain.com/feed), can that affect the webcal://www.domain.com?feed=eo-events ?
